HOW DID DARREN AND DANIEL MEET?
Five years ago, Daniel put an add in the newspaper (in Brisbane, Australia, where the guys are from) in search of a lead singer for his group, Oz Rock. Darren auditioned and the two klicked. Ox Rock soon broke up, but Dan and Daz stuck together and the rest is history!!
HOW DID SAVAGE GARDEN GET THEIR NAME?
Darren admitts that it was a hard process, because all the names they could come up with were taken. Finally, they stuck with the name Savage Garden which was inspired by the book Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice.
ABOUT SOME OF THE SONGS:
A Thousand Words and To the Moon and Back where the first songs the guys wrote together. Daniel said that he knew that To the Moon and Back was going to be a hit soon after it was written, and he was right, but Darren says that the song almost didn't make it on the album because they couldn't get it to right sound at first. Truely, Madly, DeeplyWent to #1 in Australia and the US. It was also the highest selling Australian single for 1997. I Want You was the highest selling Australian single for 1996. I Want You peaked at #1 in Canda. It also was the highest debuting single by an Australian act on the U.S charts, debuting at #31, but it this feat was broken by Truly Madly Deeply which debuted at #26.
